Hole 10 : B-433/W-428/Y-423 : Par 4 Men/5 Women
Starting with number 10, the back 9 shows itself as a whole different package of problems. This long dogleg left has trouble all over the place. If you manage to find the right side of the fairway about 240 yards out, you can see a small, well trapped green at the end of a slender fairway. Longer drives are confined by a drainage ditch 250 yards out and if you pop one short, your prospects of blasting over the cedars will not be for the faint of heart. Many a fine round has come apart in the cedars of this hole. If you make 4 or better on this one, mark down the date. It's not the number one stroke hole on the course by accident.

Hole 11 : B-517/W-505/Y-374 : Par 5
The distance says the big boys can get there in 2 but with the soft fairways it's all carry so good luck. You drive out of a narrow cedar chute but if you find the fairway, 2 passable shots should find you putting on a large green. Errant approaches will find the large bunkers right and left. There's potential for scoring here if you can bring it but it's tough slugging for the Punch and Judy crowd.

Hole 12 : B-517/W-459/Y-447 : Par 5
This short dogleg left favours a long draw and it's definitely reachable. A pull hook, however, and your reaching for another ball; block it and you've found a fairway trap. Trees lining the left side and a large pond and trees on the right punish wayward second or third shots. This is one of the few birdie opportunities on the back but get silly and it can smack you around. Don't mess it up! Trouble lies ahead.

Hole 13 : B-166/W-133/Y-129 : Par 3
Pond and trees right/trees and trees left; lots of sand and a nose wind that makes it play longer than the yardage. A respectable shot and you'll take your 3 and move on. Slash around a bit and this hole can give you a serious number.

Hole 14 : B-446/W-371/Y-360 : Par 4
This lll o n g, dogleg right with a forest lining the right side and a drainage ditch about 175 out makes for a character-building tee shot. You can cut it over the forest if you can control the urge to look up mid-swing. A mistake here is expensive - don't even bother looking. Even if you find the fairway, it's often a mighty poke to make it to the poa - and lots of traps when you get there. Pars are rare and birdies anthropological. Play the whites!

Hole 15 : B-391/W-381/Y-315 : Par 4
Another dominant west wind makes your 180-90 yard carry over the drainage ditch an adventure on this tough par 4. The sharp dogleg left means you'd better be long or you're blowing it over trees again! Slap it right and, you guessed it…more trees. The well trapped green is generous but getting to it can be a spot of bother. If you make par, smile . . . lots don't.

Hole 16 : B-132/W-103/Y-91 : Par 3
This shorty seems out of place after the 2 holes you've just finished. A small target that's well trapped is a welcome respite from the war you've just been waging but be careful. The out of bounds that hugs the left side will grab your yank and if you 'pure' it, you'll be picking cedars out of your ears. There's lots of sand left, right and front as well. The target's right there but it's surrounded with trouble. Go for it!

Hole 17 : B-381/W-356/Y-346 : Par 4
Here we go again. A tight tee shot crosses a small pond leading to a less than generous fairway that doglegs hard to the right. Straight out and you're left with close to 200 yards in. Nail it over the trees or fade it around the corner and you can be at the 150 or better. This is a great risk/reward scenario but even hitting over the trees can be problematic if you pound it through the skinny fairway into the trees on the other side. The linear green with its traps right and left and the ditch 15 yards in front make the second shot anything but automatic. Put a 4 on the card and you might be the only one in your group.

Hole 18 : B-377/W356/Y-267 : Par 4
The generous tee looks out over a slight dogleg left with 2 drainage ditches, the last about 160 yards out. This ditch shouldn't be a problem but a strong nose wind and it will give short hitters fits. The left side of the narrow fairway is, once again, lined with trees but a good drive and decent second (mid to short iron) should land you at your final destination, the 18th green. Did you make handicap or better? Congrats on a fine round if you did! Now it's time for the telling of tales over a libation or two at the clubhouse. Bob and Pat have heard it all before but they'll listen to your stories anyway. Hope you've had fun! See you next time.
